New Delhi, March 10: Lakhs of devotees turned up to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mahashivratri in Varanasi, Haridwar, Ujjain, Allahabad and other major cities.




Ganga Aarti was performed at the Sangam near Allahabad on the last day of the Kumbh Mela.

Pilgrims in thousands congregated at Haridwar to take a holy dip in the river Ganga. Haridwar is considered to be the "in-laws' place" of Lord Shiva. Thousands of devotees turned up to pray at the Daksheshwar Mahadev temple here.

Two devotees died during a sudden stampede at the Lodheshwar temple in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh.

In Nagpur's Chandramauleshwar Shiva Temple in Ram Nagar, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari along with his wife performed the Maha Abhishek of Lord Shiv. Mayor of Nagpur Anil Soley was also present.

Large crowds of devotees flocked at the Aap Shambhu temple in Jammu and at Gauri Shankar temple in Old Delhi to celebrate Mahashivratri.

The Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and the Lingaraj temple in Old Bhubaneshwar were decked up today, as thousands of devotees scrambled to pay obeisance to the deities.
