The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the plea related to the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute until the first week of November. This follows the Allahabad High Court's August 1 ruling, which rejected a plea challenging the maintainability of 18 cases linked to the dispute.
The High Court ruled that the "religious character" of the Shahi Idgah Masjid must be determined and dismissed arguments from the Muslim side that the suits violated the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991.
This Act prohibits altering the religious character of any shrine from its status on Independence Day, except the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. The Hindu litigants' cases seek the removal of the mosque, which they allege was constructed on the site of a demolished temple.
Shahi Masjid Committee Secretary Tanvir Ahmad stated that they are reviewing the High Court's order and plan to appeal to the Supreme Court.
