The Central Government has approached the Supreme Court, urging it to direct the West Bengal government to provide adequate facilities for the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) stationed at a Kolkata hospital. This follows the recent rape-murder incident at the hospital, which has heightened tensions between Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP.

Current situation

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, arguing that the CISF personnel currently stationed at the city’s outskirts must travel for an hour to reach the hospital. The MHA contends that this arrangement hampers their ability to respond effectively to emergencies.

Supreme Court's previous orders

On August 21, the Supreme Court directed the CISF to take over security at RG Kar Hospital after a violent protest on August 14 led to significant damage. The court deemed the situation a "matter of very serious concern" and mandated CISF deployment to ensure safety.

Tensions and legal implications

The MHA's petition underscores the urgency of providing proper facilities for CISF personnel to prevent any potential contempt of court. The outcome of this case could influence the ongoing political friction between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP.
