He served as the Mangaing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation between 1995-2012.
He came into limelight when he rebuilt the Pamban bridge which was washed away by a cyclone that connected Rameshwaram to mainland Tamil Nadu.
He was given a target of rebuilding it within three months but he did a remarkable job of completing it in 46 days.
In 1970, he was appointed as in charge of the first metro in India, Kolkata metro.
Cochin Shipyard launched Rani Padmini (it's the first ship built), when he was its Chairman and Managing Director in 1981.
Though he retired fram Indian Railways as Member Engineering in 1990, he was called back for the Konkan railway contract by the then railway minister, George Fernandes.
