Mumbai, Nov 11 : A Kingfisher Airlines pilot was arrested by the Samta Nagar police for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl on Tuesday evening, reports Mumbai newspaper DNA.
Uday Singh Rawat, 39, lured the girl to his Thakur Village residence in Kandivli by promising her a cake and chocolates, and tried to assault her sexually, according to the police.The police said the incident took place around 8.30pm when the victim was playing in the building's lobby along with other kids.
"When the victim entered Rawat's residence, he allegedly started abusing her physically. The victim got scared and started crying. However, she managed to escape and narrated the incident to her parents," said Anant Kenjale, senior police inspector, Samta Nagar police station.
The victim's family and other members of the housing society approached the police and lodged a criminal complaint against Rawat.
"The society's members were upset after hearing about the incident. But we arrested him before they could harm him. We later calmed down the angry residents," said another police officer.Rawat was produced in court on Wednesday and granted judicial custody, Kenjale said.
"Rawat resides alone and is a divorcee. He had worked in several other airlines earlier. He is with Kingfisher since three or four years," said Kenjale.
