"I called the SHO Malviyanagar Kaushik, who took a long time in reaching the spot. The SHO, instead of taking action, took away his entire police force from the area, saying he needed warrant before arresting anybody.
"As a lawyer, I can say, a police officer can conduct a raid and arrest people without a warrant, if he has sufficient reasons to give in writing later. We took the women to AIIMS, where they refused to give their blood samples and show their passports.
"On my way back to Malviya Nagar, we found a car with Africans inside, blocking our path. We quickly took a U-turn and saved our lives", said Delhi's Law Minister.
Another AAP minister Rakhi Birla narrated what happened last night in Indra Park, Sagarpur, where a married woman Neha Yadav was set on fire by her father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law on Jan 13 and is presently in Safdarjung Hospital with 45 pc burns.
"I first went to Safadarjung Hospital and asked Neha why he tried to commit suicide as her in-laws were claiming. She said, No. Her father-in-law poured petrol, and her mother-in-law and sister-in-law set her on fire. Her eight-year-old son was the lone witness. Till date, the in-laws are absconding and have not yet been arrested.
"I asked SHO Sagarpur, why he was not arresting the in-laws. He replied very rudely saying we can't do this. The SHO first made an excuse saying he had no vehicle to accompany me, and we offered him our vehicle. He ultimately brought his police vehicle. I was surprised to find that the police had not even neither marked out, nor sealed the room where Neha Yadav was burnt", said Rakhi Birla.
