Srinagar, Mar 4: Shops and other businesses were shut in most parts of the Kashmir Valley Monday in response to a shutdown call by separatists against the mysterious death of a Kashmiri student in Hyderabad.

The authorities have, however, not imposed any restrictions, although heavy deployments of police and entral reserve police force were seen in Srinagar and other towns of the valley.

Markets, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Srinagar city and other parts of the Kashmir Valley although government offices, banks and post offices functioned normally Monday.

Private transport also plied in many parts of the city, where stray incidents of stone pelting were reported.

The united separatist forum, Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawarat (MMM) has called for a protest shutdown against the death of a Kashmiri student in Hyderabad who was allegedly murdered.

Mudasir Ahmad Malla, a PhD scholar was enrolled in an institute in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, was found hanging in his room Sunday.

The Hyderabad Police said the death of the scholar was a suicide although the exact details would surface only after investigations are completed.

Malla belonged to Parigam village of south Kashmir's Pulwama district, 22 km from here.
