Srinagar, Jan 1: Residents in the Kashmir Valley welcomed the New Year Tuesday on a chilled note as the minimum temperature remained much below the freezing point.
The weather office forecast a further dip in the night temperature during the coming days.
“The minimum temperature was minus 2.5 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, minus 5.4 in Pahalgam and minus 8.2 degrees in Gulmarg,” Sonam Lotus, director of the local Met office, told IANS here.
Lotus said the weather would remain dry during the next few days in the Valley.
“Night temperatures are likely to fall further while there would be a gradual rise in the day temperatures during the next few days,” he said.
“Except for the morning haze, days would have clear sunshine in the Valley while foggy weather conditions would prevail in Jammu city,” Lotus said.
