Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to award Rs one lakh each to individuals, organisations and NGOs who displayed “exemplary courage” in rescuing people marooned in the flood-ravaged areas of the state, an official said today.
“The government has decided to award 100 such individuals, organisations, stakeholders and NGOs with an award of Rs one lakh each in recognition of their commendable service,” an official spokesman here said.
The spokesman said some individuals, groups and NGOs “displayed exemplary courage” while rescuing people in the flood-hit areas.
“Their missionary spirit has kept alive the spirit of love, brotherhood and humanity despite the fury of floods,” he said.
The spokesman said the government has asked the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir regions to identify and recommend names for these awards.
“The government has constituted a committee headed by chief secretary which shall scrutinise the recommendations received from the two officials,” he added.
