Jammu: Pakistani Rangers and BSF troops exchanged fire along the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, a BSF officer said today.

“Pakistani Rangers fired few small mortar bombs and small arms firing on Border out Posts along the IB in (Hiranagar belt of) Samba sector late last night after we fired few rounds on detecting suspected movement close to the IB”, the officer said.

The firing exchanges lasted for a brief period, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the exchanges.

“There was no firing on civilian areas”, he said.  The mortar shells were targeted on Karol Krishna and Londi BoPs along the IB in Hiranagar belt of Kathua district around 9.40 PM last night.

The firing exchanges came after a few days of lull along the IB in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Firing exchanges and ceasefire by Pakistan Rangers were witnessed along the IB in Kathua district on January 6.

Five persons, including four jawans and a woman, died in the Pakistan firing and shelling along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir in January.

Over 10,000 people were also displaced due to the firing.
