New Delhi: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's mother, Madhavi Raje Scindia, passed away Wednesday morning at AIIMS, Delhi. She passed away at 9:28 am and had been on a ventilator in her final days.
She had been receiving treatment at the premier hospital for the last three months and was battling pneumonia along with sepsis.
“With great sorrow, we wish to share that Rajmata is no more. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's mother and the Rajmata of the Gwalior royal family, Rajmata Madhavi Raje Scindia, had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi for the past two months. Her condition had been extremely critical for the past two weeks. This morning at 9:28 A.M., she took her last breath at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. Om Shanti,” a press statement said.
Leaders express condolences
BJP state president VD Sharma took to X to extend his condolences to the Union Minister. "I was saddened to learn that honourable Rajmata of Gwalior, Madhavi Raje Scindia, is no more. May she find eternal peace in heavenly abode. I pray God her family and loved ones the strength to bear with her loss," Sharma posted.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister also expressed grief and said that her grace and generosity, as well as her philanthropic work in education and healthcare sectors, will always be remembered. "Deeply saddened by the passing away of Smt Madhavi Raje Scindia Ji, mother of Hon Union Min of Civil Aviation & Steel, Shri @JM_Scindia Ji. Smt Raje Ji's grace & generosity, as well as her philanthropic work in education and healthcare sectors, will always be remembered. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved family. May Lord Buddha provide peace to the departed soul. Om Mani Padme Hum," he said in an X post.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, "I offer my heartfelt condolences to senior party leader & my colleague Sh @JM_Scindia Ji on the sad demise of his mother Smt Madhavi Raje Scindia Ji. May God give him strength to bear this irreparable loss. Om Shanti!"
Who was Madhavi Raje?
Madhavi Raje Scindia was the wife of Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia II, a notable politician who held positions as a Member of Parliament and a Union Minister. On September 30, 2001, Madhavrao Scindia, a veteran Congress leader, died in a plane crash near Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh.
Madhavi Raje, who belonged to Nepalese royalty, was known as the Rajmata (Queen Mother) of the Gwalior royal family.
She played a significant role in social and cultural endeavours in Gwalior. She actively participated in charitable activities and served as the chairperson of 24 trusts dedicated to various fields, including education and healthcare.
