New Delhi, Sep 30: A Delhi court today extended till October 13 the judicial custody of sacked CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and eight others, arrested for their alleged role in the irregularities in awarding of a games-related contract to a Swiss firm.
Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh extended the judicial custody of Kalmadi, former OC Secretary General Lalit Bhanot, former Director General V K Verma and officials M Jaychandran, Surjit Lal and A S V Prasad, till October 13.
Besides them, it also extended the judicial custody of promoters of two construction companies - Anil Madan and P D Arya of Faridabad-based Gem International and A K Reddy of AKR Constructions - till October 13.
Meanwhile, the court also heard the arguments advanced by defence counsel on CBI's plea of separating the trial of accused firm Swiss Timing Omega, which was awarded the contract to install the Timing, Scoring and Results (TSR) for the 2010 mega sporting event.
CBI sought separation of trial of Swiss Timing, saying the proceedings against other accused was getting delayed.
The defence counsel, however, opposed CBI plea saying that there was no legal provision under which CBI has sought to separte the trial of the firm.
The counsel for accused persons questioned under what law CBI has sought the court's permission for holding separate trial of the Swiss firm.
The court asked the defence counsel to submit remaining arguments on October 13. PTI
