Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party today alleged that the state government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has failed in carrying out the relief and rehabilitation work for the flood hit people of the state.

“The recent floods have created havoc in both the regions of the state, but the state government has not only failed to provide relief to the flood hit, but it has miserably failed to rehabilitate the flood hit people, who lost everything in the floods,” Prof Bhim Singh, founder of JKNPP said.

Singh said that his party filed a petition with the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution seeking immediate remedies for the rescue of the stranded people in different parts of the state and for their relief and rehabilitation.

“The Supreme Court constituted a five-member committee to monitor the relief distribution,” he said.

Singh said that during one of his recent visits to Srinagar to assess the damage caused by the floods, he was dismayed to find that the relief has not reached the actual flood hit residents.

“More than 90 percent of the flood affected people in Srinagar told me that they had not received any aid or assistance from the government except some rice and dry food,” he said.

The situation was similar in various flood hit areas of Jammu region as no relief had reached flood victims there.

“During my visit to various flood hit areas of Jammu, we found that no relief has reached to the people from the government side. The people dread the upcoming harsh winters as they are forced to sleep in makeshift tin huts,” he said.
