Latehar (Jharkhand): Maoists today blew up a stretch of rail track, derailing a goods train and disrupting train services in Latehar district.
Superintendent of Police Michael S Raj said the Maoists blew up the tracks around 2 AM between Latehar and Bendi railway stations.
A coal-laden goods train derailed under the impact of the explosion, but n one was hurt in the incident, he said. The rebels left several leaflets claiming responsibility, the officer added.
Meanwhile, railway authorities either diverted or cancelled trains on the route, which are expected to resume in the next 48 hours, a railway press release said.
Three passenger trains - Gommo-Barwadih, Barkakana-Varanansi and Barkakana-Deri-on-Sone - were cancelled, the release said.
Important trains like Howrah-Jabalpur Shaktipung train, Howrah-Bhopal train and other trains on the CIC section have been re-routed via Grand Cord section, the release said. Dhanbad DRM B B Singh and senior officials are camping at the site as repair work was on.
