Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who has been calling upon officials to be sensitive towards problems of people since he took over the reins seven months ago, yesterday took a dig at those officials “shirking” responsibilities and said they could take voluntary retirement.
Das' comments came when he learnt about alleged negligence by some officials pertaining to an issue of a complainant relating to public distribution system during his ‘Sidhi baat' (straight talk) with the people.
“Those officials who cannot work or not take complaints seriously, can take voluntary retirement and sit at home,” Das said when he did not get a satisfactory reply to a complainant's grievance.
An official release quoting Das said it was not proper that a complainant himself come under physical assault. Asking how could a block development officer be entrusted with investigation into a case when the accused was his relative, the Chief Minister directed the deputy commissioner of the district concerned to probe the matter. “...give attention to human values, try to solve problems of the people on priority basis,” Das added.
Later, the officials said they had taken phone numbers of the complainants and their problems would be solved at the earliest.
