New Delhi, Sep 16: : Hours after a Delhi court granted five days of interim bail to hospitalized Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, his close associate Jaya Prada issued a veiled threat that Singh held a lot of secrets and would "reveal all" at an opportune time, reports Times of India.
"If he opens his mouth, many people will be inconvenienced. Yet, he has been patient throughout this ordeal and he has kept his secrets to himself. The big people who had benefitted from him have not even tried to find out his condition," Jaya said.
Singh was arrested for his 'involvement' in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam and was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from Tihar jail on September 12 following complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea.
Jaya Prada, who broke down while talking to the media, claimed that not only did Singh choose to remain silent but he had asked all those close to him, including her, not to reveal anything.Earlier in the day, special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal took note of Singh's "fluctuating" health and granted him five days interim bail.
"The accused (Amar Singh), Member of Parliament and a known figure, cannot be shown extra indulgence but he must also not be subjected to undue harshness as humane angle can never be lost sight of by the courts of equity, justice and good conscience," Sehgal said.The report by AIIMS -- where Singh was shifted for treatment from Tihar -- played a decisive role in influencing the court.
While giving relief to the 55-year-old Singh on health grounds, the judge also asked AIIMS to submit a detailed report on his day-to-day health status on September 19.
However, Singh's plea for permission to fly to Singapore for treatment was turned down by the court which asked him to deposit his passport and stay in the Capital during the five days he remains free. It warned him not to try and influence witnesses or tamper with evidence. In her order, Sehgal asked Singh to furnish a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with one surety of the same amount.
SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was at the receiving end of Jaya's tirade. "What's stopping him from visiting the man who had once put his life at stake to help him. Is he so scared of society or are political compulsions more important than humanitarian concerns," she asked. She took a dig at the "celebrity", who had benefitted several times both in cash and kind (land), thanks to his association with Singh.
There have been reports that Jaya has been critical of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan for being "ungrateful". Singh was at one point thick with the Bachchans but has since fallen out with them. He had openly voiced his disappointment at Jaya Bachchan not following in his footsteps of quitting SP after his ouster from the party.
Earlier, the judge directed AIIMS authorities to apprise the court immediately if Singh was discharged."The director, AIIMS shall submit a comprehensive report based on day-to-day medical health status of accused on September 19 by 11 am. In case the accused is discharged from AIIMS before September 19, director, AIIMS shall apprise the court without loss of time," the judge said.
Singh's condition was reflected in the medical report submitted by AIIMS in court. "It appears (from AIIMS report) that the health of the accused is fluctuating and perhaps this necessitated his being shifted from Tihar jail to AIIMS," the judge said.
The report said there was increase in Singh's creatinine level and he was suffering from urinary tract infection and his white blood cell count had increased which suggested spreading of infection.
Singh was arrested on September 6 after he appeared in court in pursuance of its summons for his alleged role in the cash-for-vote scam. Singh has been asked to appear on September 19 for his regular bail plea since his judicial custody also comes to an end on that day.
