Accusing the Centre of "letting down" Tamil Nadu on the Mullaperiyar dam issue, AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa on Friday demanded that the DMK withdraw its support to UPA Government.

"He (Karunanidhi) has truly been let down by the Central Government.... he should withdraw his party's support to the Union Government immediately", she said in a statement in Chennai .

On the Supreme Court rejecting Tamil Nadu Government's plea for a stay on the Central nod to Kerala for a survery for a new dam, she said "The petition had been filed only for the sake of filing and not with any real intention of stopping Kerala from carrying out the a survey.

"This is borne out by the Supreme Court's reasons for rejecting Tamil Nadu's demand," she said.

"Now, in the absence of a stay from the Supreme Court, Kerala can go ahead with the survey it had started two years ago, of which the DMK Government had done nothing".

She also claimed that people in the districts of Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Ramanathapurm and Sivaganga would have very little water for drinking or agriculture if Kerala constructed a new dam.

She criticised the DMK Government for not implementing the Supreme Court's order allowing Tamil Nadu to increase the storage level in the dam from 136 feet to 142 feet. "Till this day, the storage level has not been raised even an inch beyond 136 feet". PTI
