Jammu: Delhi-bound Jammu Mail today caught fire near Manwal area along the Udhampur-Jammu section, but the fire was put out without causing any casualties.

Fire erupted around the parcel bogey located after engine due to friction caused by jamming of its wheels on the track near tunnel number 14 near Manwal area around 1530 hours, SHO Manwal police station, Inspector Hassan Kamal told PTI.

The fire was caused due to burning of rubber on the wheel triggered by friction caused by jamming of wheels on the track, he said.

Appreciating the driver for bringing the train out of the tunnel, where it was difficult to douse the fire, the SHO said police accompanied by some civilians and fire tenders rushed to the spot at Manwal station and doused the fire immediately.

"There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the fire incident. There was no major damage caused to train although some wheels of train have been gutted," he said.

Railway authorities rushed its technical staff to the spot and conducted some repair after which the train left for Jammy late in the afternoon, he said.
