Hyderabad, Jan 10: Telangana supporters today held protests against Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy while he was on his way to Armoor in Nizamabad district in the region to hold a fast over farmers' issues.

They squatted on the roads, burnt objects like tyres, pelted stones on his convoy and voiced their protest in various other forms at several places. The protesters were removed by policemen.

The YSR Congress Party leader offered prayers at a famous British-era church at Medak, hailed as an architectural marvel, while on his way to the hunger strike venue.

Meanwhile, Jagan's supporters welcomed him at some places during his journey to Armoor for the 48-hour fast.

Alleging that YSR Congress had an ambivalent stance on the separate statehood demand, TRS and the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) had called for protests against his visit.

Asserting that it respected the sentiments of Telangana people, YSR Congress, however, said it is for the Centre to take a decision on the long-pending statehood issue.

Jagan last night said his fast should not be politicised as it was intended to highlight farmers' problems.  The Lok Sabha MP demanded that the support price and input subsidy for agriculture be enhanced.

The TRS and Telangana JAC had tried to stall TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's visit to Telangana region last week, but he managed to undertake his ‘padayatra' in Warangal district over farmer issues.
