Srinagar, Oct 7: Jammu and Kashmir Government today termed as “baseless and mischievous” reports that telephone lines of political leaders in the state were being tapped in the aftermath of death of a ruling National Conference worker.
Government has not issued any such orders, State Home Secretary B R Sharma told reporters.
He was commenting on a television news channel report which said the state Government has ordered tapping of phones of political leaders.
Opposition PDP promptly launched a scathing attack on the state government on the issue.
Davinder Rana, political advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, challenged the PDP to prove that government had ordered tapping of phones. “Let them come forward, prove this charge of phone tapping,” he said.
“This malicious propaganda is being unleashed by PDP because they are masters in manipulative politics of deceit and deception,” Rana said and accused the PDP of “influencing” witnesses.
He alleged that two PDP leaders were working overtime to influence the witnesses and this would be exposed at an appropriate time and at at appropriate fora. PTI
