New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday morning released the first picture of the Red Plant taken by the Mangalyaan.
“First image of Mars, from a height of 7.3 km; with 376 m spatial resolution,” the ISRO said in a twitter post.
The spacecraft has sent five pictures of the Red Planet's surface, said a senior official of the Indian space agency.
All five images have been taken by the Mars Colour Camera (MCC). According to ISRO, this tri-colour MCC will give images and information about the surface features and composition of Martian surface. This will help scientists to monitor the dynamic events and weather of the planet.
On Wednesday, India created space history by becoming the first country in the world to place a spacecraft in Mars' orbit in the first attempt – an accomplishment achieved by none other nation.
India's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) traversed over 650 million km distance through deep space for over nine months to reach the Red Planet's orbit.
The 1.3-tonne MOM was launched on November 5, 2013 by India's workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the spaceport of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
