Panaji: Goa Police have begun investigating a letter, with IS scribbled on it, which has threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for allegedly pursuing anti-beef policies.

Goa's Inspector General of Police V. Renganathan confirmed the contents of the letter, which he said was written in English, and added the postcard containing the threats to the two political leaders was posted locally.

"Since you are not allowing to eat beef, you will be taken care of," the postcard said while referring to Modi and Parrikar. The letter was signed with the letters IS.

The letter, received at the state secretariat here on Thursday, was later handed over to the Anti-Terror Squad and the North Goa district police.

Another senior police official, Sunil Garg told reporters at the police headquarters that another hoax terror call was received on January 17, threatening of a terror attack at the Mandrem beach, which is located in Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar's constituency.

"We are taking no chances. We have beefed up security across Goa. A meeting of all agencies had also been called to discuss the security apparatus in Goa," Garg said.

Police sources said Parrikar's security was reviewed in view of the threat letter.

A spokesperson for the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party while responding to a question about the threat to Parrikar said on Tuesday that the police were capable of handling such issues.

"We have faith in the police machinery. They are doing their best to ensure safety and security in Goa," party spokesperson Pramod Sawant said.
