Hyderabad: Development of minor and major irrigation systems, producing surplus power, environment conservation and industrial development are some of the major focus areas for the TRS government in Telangana, state IT Minister K T Rama Rao said here today.

With the aim of supplying drinking water to all and providing irrigation facilities, the government is keen on reviving chain tank system and also major irrigation projects, Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said.

He was speaking on ‘Telangana: Road Ahead' at the Golden Jubilee Lecture organised by Hyderabad Management Association.

Talking about the shortage of power in Telangana, Rama Rao said, “It is the legacy inherited by the state with adequate power generation stations not being set up in the past.”

The government is, however, taking short-term and long term measures to ensure that Telangana becomes power surplus state in about four years.

Noting that environment and health are other focus areas, he said about 230 crore saplings would be planted across the state to increase the green cover.

Observing that industrial development would be promoted, he said, Hyderabad would be an engine of growth of the government.

“There are plans to develop a cinema city, sports city, education city and pharma city, among other initiatives,” he added.

Referring to the allegations about the demolitions in Hyderabad and the household survey, Rama Rao said they are only aimed at gathering true data and correcting the anomalies like the number of ration cards surpassing the number of households.
