New Delhi, Feb 1: Irate residents of Tilak Nagar on Tuesday night staged protests outside the Delhi Metro station and stoned the premises over an eve-teasing incident. The mob broke open the security gate and smashed the iron gate.
Police contingents were rushed to the spot to control the situation.
SHOs (station house officers) from several areas, Additional Commissioner (West) , Additional DCP reached the spot with police force till late in the night to soothe ruffled feathers.
The incident took place at around 10 pm when a couple with their eight-year-old child was travelling from Rajouri Garden to Tilak Nagar. Two youths inside the Metro train began eve-teasing the married woman.
When the woman's husband protested, the youths called in more of their friends at Tilak Nagar and began bashing up the husband.
Meanwhile, people who saw the woman being molested and her husband being beaten gathered outside the station and staged protests. They ransacked the place and stoned the Metro station, alleging that the security personnel allowed the youths to go scot free.
Eve-teasing incidents are common in Delhi Metro stations, with the CISF personnel in charge of security turning a blind eye, say local residents.
