Shimla: BJP MP Anurag Thakur today told External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj that 28 more Indians, including six from Himachal Pradesh, are also stranded in strife-torn Iraq and asked her to ensure their early evacuation.

The Hamirpur MP said he has written a letter to Swaraj providing details of these persons working with a company there.

He said he received the information about them through an e-mail today.

Thakur said he had written to the minister earlier also and Swaraj had detailed the efforts being made by the government to bring back the Indians stranded in the Gulf nation.

He said she had informed that her ministry has opened three camp offices in Najaf, Karbala and Basrah manned by senior officials.

She said the Indians in Iraq who want to return to the country can contact their nearest office and these offices will facilitate their return, including all travel formalities and air ticket, according to Thakur.

He said apart from these offices, a 24-hour helpline number is functional in the Indian Embassy at Baghdad.
