New Delhi: Indian intelligence agencies are suspecting China's role in last week's attack at Army camp in Manipur that killed 18 jawans.
Reports claimed that China has renewed attempts to stir trouble in the Northeast and is conspiring to cause disturbance in the region by supporting the terror outfits.
The reports have come days after one of the deadliest ambush in Chandel district of Manipur jointly by NSCN (K), KYKL and KCP. Also on Sunday, suspected militants of the NSCN(K) fired indiscriminately at an Assam Rifles camp in Arunachal Pradesh.
A senior government official said that NSCN(K) abrogated its ceasefire pact with the Government of India at the behest of China's People's Liberation Army.
Quoting intelligence inputs, the official said ULFA leader Paresh Baruah convinced NSCN (K) leader SS Khaplang to snap the ceasefire agreement. Baruah was acting following instructions from some senior officials of China's PLA, the official said.
Khaplang and Baruah often shuttle between Taga (Myanmar) and Ruili and Kunming, both in Yunnan province of China, and are in regular touch with Chinese officials.
Reports also claimed that there are at least two dozen insurgent groups are operating in the region. Most of them have set up their bases and training camps in Kachin province of Myanmar.
It is believed that a former officer of China's PLA, according to intelligence inputs, has set up a factory of assault rifles in Kachin province to supply arms to militants of the Northeast.
Chinese involvement in Northeast region is not new. In the 60s, it had backed the Naga rebels allowing them to travel to China and giving some arms. However, between 70s and 2000s, China lowered its focus only to re-engage the NE rebels in a big way.
Meanwhile, MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that the government is 'serious' on reacting to the recent attacks in the northeastern region, adding that the state police and central forces are qorking together to tackle the menace.
"We are taking the recent attacks by terrorist groups in Northeastern states very seriously. We are discussing how to tackle such problems. In Arunachal, the security forces repelled the attack and there were no causalities. The state police and Central forces have to work together to tackle the problem. We are discussing on how to bring peace in the region," Rijiju said yesterday.
