Aligarh-based businessman Abhishek Tiwari had accused Ajay Kumar and others of assault and threatening to kill him.

An additional inspector posted in Kotwali Nagar here has been suspended from service after an investigation found he had allegedly tortured a businessman in custody over a check bounce case, officials said on Saturday.

A case has been registered against Additional Inspector Ajay Kumar, who was posted in Kotwali Nagar, in Aligarh's Harduaganj police station under kidnapping and other sections of the IPC and placed under suspension.

Aligarh-based businessman Abhishek Tiwari had accused Ajay Kumar and others of assault and threatening to kill him.

According to the FIR, Tiwari alleged that on the night of September 30, he was sitting in his factory in Aligarh's Talanagri. An SUV came and 8-10 people in the car called Tiwari to come outside and then started beating him.

Tiwari was pushed into a car and taken outside the district. When they neared Talanagari outpost in Aligarh, the car was stopped there. Inspector Ajay Kumar, who was waiting there in a car, allegedly "kidnapped" the businessman and took him in his vehicle.

Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh said Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a resident of Kotwali Nagar area, had lodged a check bounce case on September 16 against Tiwari of Rs 6.60 lakh.

The additional inspector was the investigator in that case. As it is not a serious offence under the IPC, there is no provision for arrest in the case.

Kumar, though, left the district without bringing it to the notice of the top officials and went to Aligarh without any reason.

Based on an initial probe, he was suspended after Tiwari's allegations of custodial torture on the inspector were found true in the investigation.
