New Delhi: The Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission and an Honorary Professor at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly has been grilled on charges for sexually harassing a young law intern in a hotel room.
The incident took place on December 24, 2012. This incident has dented the public image of Justice Ganguly when last month, the intern blogged about the incident for a website that covers legal news. The Supreme Court then appointed three judges to investigate her charges.
A three-member panel of the supreme court was formed to probe the charges against Justice Gnguly which indicted the Justice for sexually harassing the young intern.
Though Justice AK Ganguly says he did not misbehave with the girl and the girl is just like a child to him, the law intern's statement proves otherwise.
Ganguly's defence was smashed after excerpts of an affidavit, filed by the law intern accusing him of sexual harassment, was made public by additional solicitor general Indira Jaising.
Justice Ganguly has said that sworn affidavits before the SC panel are considered confidential and he failed to understand how and why this came in the public domain.
On this, Jaising said that she was putting the law intern's affidavit in public domain with the girl's consent.
