Spread over an area of 6,300 acres of land, IGI has the capacity of handling around 46 million passengers whereas along with Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, together they can handle more than half of the aircraft movements in South Asia.Although, the airport handled 35.88 million passengers in 2011-12, with the new planned expansion program, it will increase its capacity to handle 100 million passengers by 2030.Even Terminal 3 has the capacity to handle 34 million passengers annually and is the 8th largest passenger terminal in the world. IGI airport provides free baggage trolley services to the travelers along with baggage wrapping services for packing your stuff within the airport, on complimentary terms. There are counters for lost and found baggage which help travelers to find their lost baggage by contacting the service desk.In terms of food, various restaurants are situated in the premises of IGI airport serving the travelers with all kind of food items from Indian to continental. However there are no duty free shops thereThe IGI airport received the ACI's Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award for its second position at a ceremony in Seoul in South Korea recently.Airport Council International (ACI) is a global body of airports which represents their interests with governments and international organizations. It covers 1,751 airports in 174 countries. Although based on their passenger-handling capacity, ACI has divided airports in the following categories: 2-5 million passengers category, 5-15 million passengers category, 15-25 million passengers category, 25-40 million passengers and over 40 million passengers' category.IGI airport has been adjudged as the second best in the 25-40 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category.A 10-member Delhi Airport team comprising representatives from DIAL, CISF, Delhi Duty Free Services Pvt Ltd, Airline Operating Committee (AOC) and Jet Airways was present at the ceremony.The airport is operated by Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL) and ever since its privatization; it has made rapid progress in enhancing the service quality. However, in the global ranking, IGI was placed at the sixth position this year against last year's fourth.The airport scored 4.84 on the airport service quality scale out of 5 points to get the recognition of the sixth best airport in the world among 235 participating airports across all categories.
