First Indian national killed in bomb blasts of war-torn Yemen

New Delhi:  An Indian national, believed to have been injured in a bomb blast in Yemen's Aden, has succumbed to his injuries, defence sources said yesterday.

Manjit Singh, who was working on merchant vessel Gulf Dove, is believed to be the victim. "Though he was admitted in a hospital, he was declared dead subsequently," defence sources said.

The exact date of his injury and death was not immediately known.

On Thursday, India had wrapped up its air evacuation operations from Yemen rescuing another 630 of its citizens from Sanaa, taking the total number of Indians brought home from the war-ravaged country to over 4,640 besides around 960 nationals from 41 countries.

"The entire evacuation effort has resulted in the evacuation of over 5600 persons. These include over 4640 Indian nationals and about 960 foreign nationals from 41 countries," said the official press statement released by the External Affairs Ministry.

Yemen has been witnessing fierce battle between Saudi-Arabia led coalition and Houthi rebels, who have battled their way into various cities including Yemen in the former stronghold of President Hadi who has fled overseas.
