New Delhi, Jan 9: In its pre-poll survey conducted in three poll-bound states, India TV-Amar Ujala C-Voters Survey has projected UP chief minister Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party as the single largest party in the Assembly elections, while predicting easy wins for Congress in Punjab and Uttarakhand .
The results of the pre-poll survey were telecast tonight by India TV in its primetime programme.
The methodology, according to C-Voters, takes a base of 14,241 voters in Uttar Pradesh, 2,280 voters in Punjab, and 3,685 voters in Uttarakhand.
Mayawati's BSP is projected to win 143 out of a total of 403 seats in UP, 59 short of majority, while Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party comes a close second with 137 seats, the pre-poll survey report said.
The survey projects BJP at third position with 48 seats, and Congress with 40 seats, with ally Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal bagging 12 seats. 'Others' get 23 seats.
73 per cent of those surveyed said Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign will have no impact on their voting preference.
The survey shows 27 per cent voters siding with BSP, 25 pc with Samajwadi Party, 19 pc with BJP, 4 pc with Congress and 7 pc with RLD.
However, 63 per cent voters said they wanted change in government.
Among the popular chief ministerial candidates, Mayawati got the support of 35 pc, Mulayam 27 pc and BJP leader Rajnath Singh 12 pc.
PUNJAB
In Punjab, Congress with Capt Amarinder Singh appears to be heading to power, with the survey projecting 61 out of 117 seats. The Akali-BJP combine has been projected to get 46 seats (Akali 40 and BJP 6), with ten seats going to 'others'.
42 per cent of the respondents supported Congress, while 38 per cent expressed support to SAD-BJP combine.
79 per cent said Team Anna's campaign will have no impact on their decision to vote, while 64 per cent of the respondents wanted change in government.
Among the popular chief ministerial candidates, Capt Amarinder Singh led with 36 per cent, and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal got 30 per cent support .
In the Uttarakhand assembly elections, the pre-poll survey projects two short of majority for the Congress with 34 out of a total 70 seats, with the ruling BJP trailing at 18. BSP appeared the surprise performer with 12 seats and Uttarkhand Kranti Dal 2 and 'others' four.
34 per cent said they will vote for Congress, while 29 per cent showed their preference for BJP. BSP garnered 14 per cent support.
78 per cent of the respondents said Team Anna will have no impact on their choice. 58 per cent wanted change in government.
Among the most popular chief minister candidates, BJP's B.C.Khanduri led with 32 per cent, Congress leader Harish Rawat with 21 pc, and former BJP CM Bhagat Singh Koshiyari with 14 per cent.
37 per cent respondents said, unemployment was the most pressing issue for them, while 31 pc said corruption was the main issue.
