New Delhi: Ahead of Independence Day, 194 blank firing pistols were today seized from two unidentified persons in south west Delhi's Dwarka (South) area which sent the security agencies into a tizzy.
A Quick Response Team of Delhi Police was patrolling the area when around 2:45 PM they saw two persons loading "something" in a white color Tata Nano car, police said.
On questioning, they did not come up with a satisfactory answer. A search was carried out during which a large number of 'weapons' were recovered from them.
Officials of Special Cell and FSL were called in to check the seized 'weapons' while the two accused were interrogated.
"After investigations it emerged that the weapons were actually non-projectile blank firing pistols. There were 194 such pistols," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Suman Goel.
Sources said initial probe has revealed that they are point one bore German pistols (air pistols).
Forensic experts have been roped in to verify whether these can be used as an actual pistol. Initial findings of forensic teams suggest these kinds of pistols are used in movies for simulated firing/bullets without projectile.
It was learnt that the two men were coming from a flat in Sector 8 in Bagdola Village in Dwarka.
Both the accused have been detained for further questioning so as to know the source of the pistols and where they were being taken, police said.
