New Delhi: In the wake of recent cases of communal clashes in the city, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today asked Delhi Police to remain more vigilant and improve their intelligence-gathering abilities to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.

“Improve intelligence gathering to prevent incidence of communal violence,” Jung told police.  Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi assured Jung that the force is taking every precaution to ensure such incidents did not break out in the national capital and has activated “aman committees” to improve social cohesion.

Officials further informed that they are holding ‘District level hearing of public grievances' to allay fears and isolate “fringe elements” who may foment trouble.  “Jung also reviewed the law and order preparations for the coming fortnight and asked police to be extra-vigilant during the India International Trade Fair, 2014, which witnesses a large footfall.

“He instructed that the police staff posted on site should facilitate crowd management and that CCTV surveillance should be put in place,” said an official at LG House.  He also called for adequate security to manage the large congregation which gathers on account of the annual Nirankari Samagam.

Also today, Jung reviewed Delhi Police's initiatives for moving to an e-platform by developing e-policing applications.  He reviewed the Delhi Traffic Police Mobile app, Police Clearance Certificate Application, the Delhi Police Loss Report application, etc.

“The future of policing lies in integration with networks of e-governance. We must move more and more to e-platforms,” Jung said.

He also reviewed plans for the decongestion of traffic in Delhi through the development of missing links and relief roads.
