Srinagar, Jul 19 :Terming human interference as the root cause of man-animal conflict, Jammu and Kashmir government has sought preservation of habitat for flora and fauna in the state.

“There is an urgent need for protection of wildlife sanctuaries against human interference,” Forest Minister Mian Altaf Ahmad said at a review meeting of the wildlife department here, yesterday.

He said disturbance caused to the eco-system due to human interference is the root cause of man-animal conflict.  “We need to preserve the habitat for flora and fauna,” Ahmad said.

He asked the officers of wildlife department to utilise full funds earmarked for conservation and development of wildlife sanctuaries.

The minister called for formulating Detailed Project Reports for zoos coming up at Nagrota in Jammu and tulip garden in Srinagar so that required funds are arranged for these projects.

He also stressed for development of eco-tourism wildlife sanctuary Hirpura in south Kashmir's Shopian district which has emerged as a favourite tourist destination.
