Rampur (UP), Mar 2: A police team searched a city hotel where Lok Sabha member Jaya Prada was staying, officials said here today.
“On a tip-off that cash had been illegally stocked in the hotel and the amount was to be used to woo voters, the search was carried out last night,” Rampur District Magistrate Balkar Singh said.
While the MP claimed that her room was search at the behest of her political rivals, Singh said police did not enter her room.
He also said no cash was recovered by the police.
Jayaprada later said, “I will inform the Election Commission about this and demand stringent action against the guilty authorities.”
She said a similar incident had happened during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
