Hisar (Haryana): A local court today extended the police remand of self-styled godman Rampal, who has been slapped with cases of sedition and murder among others, by seven days.
Rampal was produced before Judicial Magistrate (Hisar) Prateek Jain after the completion of his six-day police remand in connection with sedition and other cases registered against him on November 19 when he was arrested. Police sought extension of Rampal's remand for seven days which was accepted by the court.
The 63-year-old controversial godman was arrested from his Satlok Ashram at Barwala in Hisar. He was produced before the Punjab and Haryana High Court a day after his arrest in connection with a contempt case and was sent to police custody for five days by a Magistrate.
Rampal has been slapped with cases of sedition, murder, attempt to murder, waging war against the state government, rioting, illegal detention and others.
Violent clashes between followers of Rampal and police led to death of five women and an infant and left over 200 people injured including some policemen.
