New Delhi: Two Hindu Sena activists today slapped and assaulted 70-year-old Lashkar terrorist Abdul Karim Tunda inside the Delhi Patiala House court premises in the presence of mediapersons.
The two activists, Vishnu Gupta and Shiv Kumar Raghav, were immediately taken into custody and whisked off to Tilak Marg police station.
Nearly 20 to 25 activists had assembly today outside the Patiala House court premises, and they were chanting slogans for executing Tunda.
Police kept the protesters at bay, but in the melee, when Special Cell officers brought Tunda inside the court premises, two of the activists managed to sneak in.
They slapped, punched and assaulted Tunda, before the terrorist was whisked off by securitymen.
The two Hindu Sena activists shouted slogans against Tunda and Lashkar-e-Taiyyaba.
Tunda was slapped while he was entering the Patiala House district courts here, police said.
Shiv Kumar Raghav, 40, slapped Tunda at around 3.50 p.m. when the terrorist was being taken to a court after three days of police custody.
Along with Raghav, another member of Hindu Sena, Vishnu Gupta, was also detained by police just after the attack.
"Tunda is a traitor, he should be hanged," Raghav was shouting after he slapped Tunda and was detained by police.
Police personnel have been reinforced outside Patiala House court after the incident.
Tunda was hit on his back by the attacker whose attempt to slap the suspected terrorist on his face was thwarted by the police personnel escorting him.
He was produced in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thareja, who decided to hold the proceedings in-camera after a lawyer started shouting slogans against Tunda in the packed court room leading to commotion.
Delhi police sought his custody for 10 days to question him regarding his alleged terror links but the court remanded him in custody for four days.
Tunda, an alleged close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and one of India's most wanted terrorists as well as a bomb-maker for LeT, was recently arrested from the Indo-Nepal border after being on the run in several countries for 19 years.
Tunda is one of the 20 terrorists India had asked the Pakistan government to hand over after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and is suspected to be involved in 40 bombings in the country. He is the first in the list to be arrested.
According to Delhi police, he is a well known LeT explosive expert wanted for his role in 1993 Mumbai serial train blasts, Delhi bomb blasts of 1997-98 and serial bombings in the state of UP and also at Panipat, Sonepat, Ludhiana and Hyderabad.
