Dharamsala:  Himachal Pradesh government yesterday launched a menstrual hygiene programme aimed at providing sanitary napkins to about 4.5 lakh adolescent girls in the state in the age group of 10 to 19 years.  


The government would spend Rs eight crore on the state level menstrual hygiene programme, JAGRITI, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said while launching the programme here.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said Himachal Pradesh has set new standards in the health sector and the state's health indicators were far better than the national level.

He said that an elaborate health infrastructure was being set up in the state and emphasis had been laid on providing best health services to the people.

The state health minister Kaul Singh Thakur said Himachal Pradesh had made significant improvement in the health services during last one year.

The government was giving priority to neo-natal health care and efforts were being made to reduce the infant mortality rate from 36 to 25 in next few years, he said.
