Berhampur (Odisha): An official team from Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry is visiting Odisha's Ganjam district to review the different health schemes being implemented in the district.
The Common Review Mission (CRM) comprising ten members visited the city hospital, the district hospital here and the community health centre at Khallikote yesterday, on the first day of its three-day visit to the district.
The team also reviewed the schemes being implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM), the flagship programme of the Central government and interacted with the health officials.
“The CRM team is here to see the implantation of the different healthcare facilities in the district. The team will also look into the improvement of the heath indicator in the district,” said one of the members of the team. Since the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 2006 by the Central government, the CRM has visited different districts in various states every year.
The team had already visited eight out of 30 districts in the state in different years and suggested for the improvement of the health indicators like reducing of infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality ratio (MMR).
The mission visited the district for the first time since the implementation of NRHM, said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Niranjan Behera.
“We are giving details on the healthcare facilities that are being provided in the district and initiatives taken by the state government to improve the health indicators,” Behera added.
The team is also likely to review the plan of the district health administration on the implementation of National Urban Health Mission (NURM).
At least seven urban primary health centres (UPHC) and an urban community health centre (UCHC) are planned to be set up in Berhampur town under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), also a centrally sponsored scheme, officials sources said. Berhampur is among the four towns in the state included in NUHM. The other towns are Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela, sources said.
