New Delhi, Dec 26: A Letters Rogatory sent to Pakistan seeking specific computer, bank and telephone details in connection with the role of David Headley and eight others in Mumbai attack is part of the chargesheet filed by the NIA against the LeT terrorist.
The LR despatched by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is the first judicial document sent to Pakistan relating to the probe into the 26/11 attack in November 2008 in which 166 persons were killed.
The 100-page document has been annexed with the 60-page charge sheet filed against Headley, LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, two serving Pakistani Army officers and others.
It sought details from the authorities in Islamabad about the details of a bank account from where money was transferred into accounts of the Pakistani-American and other accused.
The LR has been sent under 166-A CrPC which entitles a probe agency to send in a letter of request to a competent authority for investigation in a country or place outside India, official sources said today.
The request was sent earlier this year under SAARC Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty signed by all countries in South Asia in Colombo in 2008 and Indian Mission in Islamabad has been sending repeated reminders to the Pakistani authorities asking them to expedite the request, the sources said.
The NIA request included Internet Protocol (IP) addresses which belong to Pakistan and the authorities in Islamabad had been requested to investigate and transfer the evidence to India.
These IP addresses were used by the perpetrators of 26/11 for conversing with the Lashker-e-Taiba(LeT) terrorists on the day of the attack using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Some of the IP addresses were also used for exchange of emails between Headley and his handler Sajid Majid and Abdur Rehman alias Pasha.
The NIA has also provided telephone numbers belonging to Pakistan Telecom department.
The LR also talks about the investigations carried so far which includes Headley's confession statements and evidence collected from US and Mumbai trial of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving gunman.
The request also sought some more details or allowing NIA to carry out investigations related to Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, a mastermind in the 26/11 attack and Major Samir Ali and Major Iqbal, the two serving army officials, who are believed to be on deputation to Pakistani spy agency ISI.
