Jammu, Sep 5: Stepping up attack on Anna Hazare and his team, Congress leader Digvijay Singh today alleged that the activist was a “mask of RSS like yoga guru Ramdev” and was being used to divert attention from the arrest of Sangh members in terror cases.
The Lokpal issue, Singh told reporters here, was raked up “to divert the attention of the people from the arrests of various RSS activists in connection with terrorism and others in corruption cases.
“They (BJP and RSS) formulated this plan. First they made Baba Ramdev as its mask and them Anna,” he alleged.
The Congress general secretary said, “I respect Anna Hazare as he is Gandhian but, unfortunately, he is surrounded by wrong people.”
To a question about his allegation against Team Anna member Arvind Kejrewal, he said, “Kejrewal is still a government employee. Government has not accepted his resignation. He is still an officer of Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
“Has a government employee right to open campaigning? Has he the right to collect donation? If 40 lakh employees cannot do it, how can he (Kejrewal) do it”, Singh said, asking as an IRS officer how many scam has he brought out.
He said the government “has respected Team Anna and invited them to the drafting committee but it was opposition which had problem with it, not us.”
Asked if the various scams and the agitations have resulted in a setback to the economic growth, Singh said, “No work has been affected. There has been economic meltdown across the world. It is seen in USA and China. But it has not affected India. The policy adopted from the period of Jawaharlal Nehru has been instrumental in our smooth working.”
He said the “Centre is doing an excellent job and is on the right path. The RTI came into force due to the government, which resulted in unearthing of scams”.
He said “the credit from strong laws against money laundering goes to Manmohan Singh government and the result was that Madhu Koda is not getting bail from past three years. “These strong steps were taken by UPA and not by any other government,” he said.
To a question about Lokayukta in BJP states, he said, “There is no Lokayukta in BJP-ruled states of Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
“But even then BJP has talked about supporting the Jan Lokpal. They were saying one thing in Parliament and other on the streets,” he said. PTI
