Rohtak (Haryana), April 19: Just a day after his girlfriend committed suicide, a yoth studying at the Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) here ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance, police said yesterday.
The youth, Trilok Chand, 28, who was pursuing post-graduation at MDU, consumed Celphos tablets after he came to know that the girl, Anu, with whom he had an affair, had killed herself by hanging in her hostel room Wednesday evening. Anu's body was found hanging in her room Wednesday evening.
Police officials said that Trilok was declared dead in hospital Thursday morning after he fell unconscious while driving his motorcycle. His postmortem report suggested that he had consumed poison.
Police said that the girl was from the Jat community, Trilok belonged to the Dalit community. Both had been in touch with each other on phone.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings.
