A four-member panel was set up to probe the accident of a school bus in Haryana's Mahendragarh, killing six students, media reports said on Friday. Meanwhile, the Haryana Education Department has called for a meeting regarding vehicle safety policy at 3 pm today (April 12), according to media reports. A show-cause notice was issued to the private school in Haryana's Mahendragarh to explain why it had been open despite being a holiday on the occasion of Eid. This comes after six students were killed and several were injured on Thursday (April 11).

Earlier, the police said they had arrested three people, including the principal and the driver, who was allegedly drunk and driving rashly. State Education Minister Seema Trikha, who visited the injured students at hospitals, said a show-cause notice has been issued to the private school to explain why it was open on Thursday despite it being a holiday on account of Eid.

President Droupadi Murmu said the deaths of schoolchildren were heartbreaking. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it was extremely painful. The incident occurred near Unhani village in Kanina around 8.30 am when the bus was carrying around 40 children -- from primary to secondary classes, to the G.L. Public School.

A case under IPC Sections 109 (whoever abets any offence), 279 (rash driving), 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 336 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety others), 337 (causing hurt by endangering life), 120-B (Whoever is a party to a criminal conspiracy) and under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered in connection with the incident, said police.
