Meham, Rohtak, Sept 5 : A panchayat of senior persons from Meham Chaubisi on Sunday decided to pay up Rs 9 lakh dues within 24 hours on behalf of Team Anna activist Arvind Kejriwal in response to a notice form Income Tax department.
The money will be collected through donations from residents of the panchayat.
According to Shamsher Kharkad, the convenor of the panchayat, the elders considered Kejriwal as their nephew, as Kejriwal's maternal uncles live in Meham panchayat.
The panchayat condemned the government's efforts to what it called browbeat Team Anna members through various methods. "We won't tolerate such browbeating", said the panchayat in a resolution.
