Chandigarh, Sept 30: The judicial magistrate at Hansi in Hisar district on Thursday sentenced Saroj Mor, the lone sitting woman MLA of Indian National Lok Dal, to two years of imprisonment for slapping a Haryana police woman constable in 2009.
The court also convicted two others, including Saroj's relative Ved Pal, an assistant sub-inspector in Haryana police, and another person Ajit, on charges of “voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing official duty”.
While Ved Pal is also sentenced to two years imprisonment, Ajit was sentenced to one month imprisonment. Judge Satish Jhangra also released the trio on bail, giving them time to file an appeal.
The verdict was announced on Thursday, almost two years after the case was registered on October 19, 2009, when during repolling of Assembly elections in Bass village in Hisar district, woman constable Veena Kumari was allegedly slapped and manhandled by Saroj, Ved Pal and Ajit.A complaint was lodged against Saroj and others by Veena, on the basis of which a case was registered against the three.
