Kolkata, Jul 8: A day after the textile minister Dayanidhi Maran quit the Union cabinet, the CPI(M) today took a dig at the UPA government saying at this rate there would be no ministers left by the time there is a cabinet reshuffle.
“At the rate in which the ministers are resigning, hardly anybody will be left to shuffle,” Sitaram Yechury told newspersons here after submitting his nomination at the Assembly here for re-election to the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking on the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran, the latest casualty from the Cabinet, Yechuri said “UPA government has not taken suo motu action on charges of corruption against anybody. The ball has rolled only when instruction has come either from some committee or from the courts.”
Stating that the CPI(M) was the only party against which a finger could not be raised, the CPI(M) leader said the Left had a very important role to play in the present situation.
On the Telengana issue, over which Congress MPs and MLAs from the region have tendered their resignation, the CPI(M) leader said that Union government had failed to tackle the issue.
“It has been six months since the Srikrishna Commission report on the issue was submitted, but nothing happened after that,” Yechuri said.
“It seems that the UPA government is not serious on the issue,” he said. PTI
