New Delhi: A petty dispute between two teenage students turned into a confrontation between two communities in Bahadurgarh village of Hapur district on Thursday.
At least six persons were injured, two of them seriously, following the scuffle between two students.
Around 13 people were apprehended by police after section 144 was clamped in the area.
"At least six persons have been injured, two of them seriously, in the clashes," said Satya Narayan, DIG, Meerut Range.
"There was a scuffle between two class nine students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Inter College at Bahadurgarh this morning," Additional Superintendent of Police, Hapur, Sudhir Kumar Singh said.
Both the students sustained minor injuries and were brought to the police station after treatment, a police spokesman in Lucknow said.
ASP Singh said that after the skirmish between the two boys, rumours spread following which people of the two communities clashed with each other hurling bricks.
Attempts were made to set a shop on fire but it was foiled by the police, he said.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
The spokesman said an FIR has been lodged and seven members from both the sides were arrested.
