Ahmedabad: The Gujarat police today landed in Mumbai to arrest social activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand after the state High Court rejected their anticipatory bail plea in connection with a case related to misuse of funds collected on behalf of riot victims.
Soon after the court rejected her pre-arrest bail plea, the Crime branch of Gujarat Police started searching for her. When Teesta's lawyers were contacted to know about her whereabouts, they refused to divulge her exact location.
Earlier in the day, Justice Pardiwala observed that the accused were not co-operating the police in its probe. The court said that it prima facie appears that the funds were used for private purpose and hence, the accused persons cannot be granted bail.
Teesta is facing charges that she misused the funds raised by her NGOs, Sabrang and Citizens for Justice and Peace, in the name of riots victims.
