New Delhi: In what may sound as a bizarre govt order, authorities in Gujarat have made it mandatory for employees to get a ‘no objection' certificate from their superiors if they want to drink alcohol.
The certificate should clearly mention that the boss has no objection if his employee consumes alcohol. This strange circular has become a hot topic of discussion in the state. The govt of Gujarat, the first state to implement total prohibition in 1958, has taken this new decision. In Gujarat, consumption of alcohol is permitted only on medical grounds.
In the last few years, the rules for obtaining permit to consume alcohol have become tougher. It says that only a person whose monthly income is more than Rs 25,000 can consume alcohol based drinks. According to a senior official of the state, the demand for alcohol has come down since the new regulations were put in place by the authorities.
IAS and IPS officers of the state have devised a new way for obtaining permit for alcohol purchase. They obtain the permit in the names of their wives although they themselves consume it.
