Ahmedabad: Gujarat government will undertake phase-wise medical check-ups for girls in the age group of 10-18 years, state Chief Minister Anandi Patel announced here today.
“State government will begin phase-wise medical check-ups including iron tests for girls in age group of 10 to 18 years,” Patel said at an event, organised by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, in Bapunagar area of the city.
Patel said that future of a healthy and strong state depends upon “the health of our mothers and sisters.” “The responsibility of taking care and concern of the girls should not only depend upon their parents and families, but the entire society should also take care of our daughters,” she said.
The chief minister called for bringing gender awareness in society and also appealed to people not to discriminate between a male and a female child.
Patel, the first woman chief minister of Gujarat, also distributed cheques to beneficiaries under the state-sponsored ‘Kanya kelavani' (girls' education) scheme. She also felicitated 1,000 sponsors who have adopted Anganwadis across the state.
